Changing Room Policy
Introduction
At Wimbledon Racquets and Fitness Club (the “club”) we have communal changing and toilet facilities for men and women. We acknowledge and respect that some adults may feel uncomfortable sharing changing rooms with each other, and that children may be inhibited and uncomfortable changing in front of adults. By children we mean those under 18.
Use of the changing rooms
For all club led activities the badminton and squash head coaches have created risk assessments which detail the arrangements for children using the changing rooms and toilets. Parents should familiarise themselves and their children with these arrangements.
At times when a child is not under the supervision of a club led coach, it is the responsibility of parents to supervise their children if they feel such supervision is needed. Children aged 10 or younger should always be supervised.
If a child is uncomfortable using the main changing rooms, they have the right to use both the disability toilet (located next to reception) or the disability wet room (located next to the women’s changing room entrance). These two areas can be used for changing and the wet room also for showering.
Under no circumstances will adult staff, coaches or volunteers change or shower in the wet room at the same time as children.
Disabled children may require additional support and assistance with changing, after prior agreement from a parent or guardian. This would be detailed on an individualised risk assessment.
Children of any age should be supervised if there are concerns about bullying, fighting or other harmful behaviours taking place.
Transgender and transitioning children and adults
If we become aware that a child or adult self-identifies as a gender different to that assigned at birth, we will liaise with them, and if appropriate their parents, to accommodate any reasonable adjustments to suit their needs.
If persons do not feel comfortable in a shared changing space, the club can help by providing private use of the wet room for changing, shower and toilet facilities.
Disabled access
We have two toilets which are accessible and have panic alarms to the reception team.
Photography and Filming
The use of film, camera equipment and mobile phones is strictly prohibited in the changing rooms and shower areas. C.f. our separate policy on photography and filming.
Lockers
The lockers in both changing rooms are for members and their guests – but only when that person is visiting the club. They require a deposit of £1 and after using the club the locker should be emptied. No items should be left in lockers after use or overnight. Keys must not be removed from the lockers to reserve them.
