Club Rules
Introduction
Wimbledon Racquets and Fitness Club (the “club”) exists for the benefit of the community in providing a safe place to participate in sport and enjoy social interactions at the club. The purpose of these rules is to state clearly what is and is not acceptable behaviour and to ensure that everyone has fair access to our facilities.
Conduct
This applies to behaviour that occurs on the club’s premises or when representing the club elsewhere, including on social media. It applies to everyone whether a member of the club or not. Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests, and parents/guardians are responsible for children in their charge.
- Be respectful, welcoming, and friendly towards others.
- Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of all participants regardless of age, gender, ability, race, culture, religion or sexual identity.
- Respect club staff, volunteers, contractors and officials such as referees and accept their decisions.
- Do not use bad, inappropriate, or racist language.
- Do not bully, intimidate, or harass anyone.
- Respect the building and the facilities.
- Ensure you use appropriate footwear to protect court surfaces.
- Dress appropriately whilst on the court or using the gym.
- Leave your court at or before your booked time so as not to impact other users.
- Enjoy the bar facility but do not adversely affect the enjoyment of other members.
- Ensure you do not take risks or endanger yourself or other members.
- Talk to the club Safeguarding Officer about any concerns or worries you may have about yourself or others.
- Let a member of staff know if you notice any maintenance or safety issues with our facilities.
Court bookings
- Courts must be booked and paid for before play commences.
- You must be present when a court that you have booked is used – you can’t book a court for use by others.
- If you are playing with a guest then the guest fee must be paid and the guest registered at reception before play commences.
- Reduced fees for juniors are only applicable if all players are juniors. If an adult is playing with a junior then the standard adult court booking fee applies.
Commercial activities and sessions
- Commercial activities of any kind are not allowed within club premises without prior written permission (via email) from the management. That includes selling merchandise. It also includes organising sessions on a for-profit basis.
- Private sessions are defined as any activity which involves the use of more than one court and players moving between those courts during the period those courts are booked. Private sessions are subject to the following restrictions:
a) they may not be held at all on weekday evenings (Monday-Friday 7pm or later) without prior written permission (via email) from the management;
b) at other times they may be held but at least 75% of attendees must be members and guest fees must be paid in advance for all non members;
c) they must be organised on a “not for profit” basis, where any fees charged only cover court fees. Otherwise the rules re commercial activities apply (point 2 above). - Anyone coaching privately must have a recognised coaching qualification. Only members may receive private coaching at the club.
Disciplinary Sanctions
Our club may take disciplinary action against anyone who, breaches this code. Any disciplinary measure will:
- be based on the evidence and the seriousness of the breach.
- be determined by our articles of association, by the sporting governing bodies’ rules and English law.
Sanctions can include suspension of membership or expulsion from the club.
